6. DIPLOMA COURSE IN SANSKRIT

R. 12 A -1.
First Year Examination

Three shall be one written paper of three hours duration carrying 100 Marks and a Viva-Voce of 100 Marks. For a Pass a Candidate shall be required to secure a minimum of 40% Marks in the written paper andviva separately.
Successful candidates shall be classified in the following two categories :-
  1. Pass : Those securing less than 75% Marks in the Aggregate.
  2. Pass with Distinction : Those securing 75% or more Marks in the aggreage.

Second Year Examination

There shall be two written papers each of 3 hours duration carrying 100 Marks and a viva-voce test of 100 Marks. For a pass a candidate will be required to secure a minimum of 40% Marks in each written paper and viva. Successful Candidates shall be classified in the following tow categories:
(a) Pass Those securing less than 75% Marks in the aggregate.
(b) Pass with Those securing 75% or more Marks in distinction the aggregate.

  1. For developing the skill of comprehension stress will be laid on practical exercises based on graded passages of standard Modern English prose. Candidates will be taught to distinguish different uses of language and to properly understand the unstated assumptions, presuppositions, inferences and implications. In the case of objective type questions, candidates will be required to give the reasoning for their answers.
  2. To develop the art of precis writing candidates will be taught how to compress both words ideas. Such skills as ellipsis use of correct vocabulary, use of shorter constructions, generalisation selection and relection of facts etc. will be taught.
  3. All aspects of letter writing involving the (i) essentials of a good letter i.e. Clarity revity and accuracy in communication, and (ii) the formal layout i.e. ways of writing the address, dates, direction, salutation, reference.
  4. The candidates will be acquained with the different kinds of report and the ways of report writing involving narration, description evaluation etc.
  5. Under paragraph writing candidates will be taught how to organise and present their ideas in well connected and meaningful combinations.
