The University Commerce College, founded in 1956, is a premier centre of commerce and business education in the country. Apart from traditional courses like B. Com. Pass and B. Com. Hons., the College has gained prominence in recent years in running professional courses like BBA and BCA. The College also offers a Vocational Course in Computer Applications and a Certificate Course in Steno-typing.
In the past, the College had the unique distinction of organizing the All-India Commerce Conference twice, in 1977 and 1995. It also successfully organized a Seminar on 'Business Leadership in India' (1968) and a seminar on 'International Monetary Development' (1972). Recently, a national seminar on 'Changing Perspectives in Management Educa-tion' (2004), and a seminar on "Globalisation and Changing Business Environment in India' (2004) were also organized by the college.
The National Seminar on Globalisation: Myth or Reality?' (2005) and ‘Emerging Issues in Commerce and Management’ (2006) was attended by a legion of delegates from all over the country and was acclaimed to be a grand success.
The College has two big playgrounds. The College also has A.C. Computer labs, containing 60 computers. The labs are linked with LAN and VAN. The College has a very large library with an enormous archive of prestigious journals and rare books.
The College is one of the biggest input providers to All-India professional examinations like CA, CS, ICWA and MBA. The achievements of the College in the field of games and sports, NSS, NCC and scouting are highly commendable. A unique feature of the college is its Career Counselling and Placement Centre which helps students in getting suitable employment. A large number of students were recruited last year by about 10 companies which held Campus Interviews in the College.
The College is equipped with State-of-the-Art systems and labs for imparting education and training in the field of computers and related areas. There is a highly qualified and experienced faculty for providing quality education in Commerce, Business and Management.
Beside academics, the college lays a great emphasis on Sports Games NCC & NSS activities. It boast of lavish games fields and facilities available for the College students.
