The Department was established in the year 1961. Initially Certificate and Diploma Courses in German, French & Russian were introduce. Post- Diploma in German & French were started in 1986. Certificate Course in Spanish got introduced since 2004. Now we have Certificate, Deploma and Post-Diploma Course in all the three languages (German, French & Spanish).

French as an optional subject in the B.A. (Pass Course) or B.A. (Hons.) with French from any recognized University in india / Post-Diploma (Advanced Diploma) in French and Graduation in any Faculty from any University, or at least Intermediate Level, Level - II (as it is now called B-2) from any Alliance Francaise along with a Graduation from any recognized University in India from any of the faculties with a minimum of 48% marks. Admission on merit basis.

Eligibility : The best percentage of marks at the Sr. Secondary, Higher Secondery (10+2)/ Graduation or Post Graduation from any stream will be considered. Minimum 50% marks at the last qualifying examination required to be eligible to apply for the admission. University Rules of reservation of seats, allotment of seats to the wards of Univ. Employees, etc. are applicable. For other details, refers to the Department Admission policy Draft. Those, who clear five out of ten class tests conducted through out the year are eligible for appearing for final examinations (Refer to the Univ. Ordinances ). Admission purely on merit basis.

With an aim to give students an insight into central issues in economy, administration among others, this job oriented course on SFS mode has been started with interdisciplinary approach of teaching . A practical training also is a part of the course . Keeping in mind the need to enable students with the global world, this Master's Program has been started. Classes are held in the evening.
Eligibility : Bachelor's Degree with minimum 55% from any discipline. Knowledge of German / French / Spanish up to certificate or A-1 Level of any Max Mueller Bhavan, Alliance Francaise, or Delhi Level - 1 is desirable. Students securing 70% marks in the foreign Languages will be given extra weightage of 5% at the time of the admission .
