4 (a)Research Projects-
The department is proud to have conducted some very good international collaborative research programmes like the Indo-US Sub-Commission funded collaboration with the National Institute of Standards and Technology, USA, in the area of Acid Rain Chemistry. DST funded collaboration with institutes of Elemento-organic Chemistry, and Organic Chemistry of erstwhile USSR in the area of elemento-organic Chemistry is another research programme the department is proud of. The faculty has many research projects from various funding agencies to carry out research, such as from CSIR, BRNS (DAE), UGC, DST (State), ICMR, Ministry of Environment and Forest, New Delhi etc.

At present the department has 7 Professors, 11 Associate Professors, and 29 Assistant Professors. In the last five years, to its credit, it has got nearly 75 major and minor research projects from various funding agencies amounting to more than Rs. 2.5 crores and more than 250 research papers published in various international and national journals of repute. The faculty is actively pursuing research in the thrust areas such as: Organometallic Chemistry; Synthetic Inorganic and Sol-gel Chemistry; Synthetic Organic Chemistry; Asymmetric Synthesis; Heterocyclic Chemistry; Natural Products Chemistry; Transformations of Natural Products; Bio-inorganic, Bio-organic Chemistry; Microbial Transformation; Medicinal Chemistry; Environmental Chemistry; Photochemistry; Chemical Dynamics; and Electrochemistry & Electrodics.
- The department is well equipped with sophisticated instruments like single crystal XRD and FTIR acquired under COSIST programme of UGC. Recently the department has acquired a new multi-nuclei NMR (JEOL, Japan, 300 MHz) under FIST Programme (DST, New Delhi) costing Rs. 85 lacs and a semi preparative HPLC (Shimadzu, Japan) costing Rs. 15 lacs out of X plan of UGC. Both FTIR (Shimadzu, Japan) worth Rs. 10 lacs and Table-Top Mass Spectrometer of Rs. 18 lacs were purchased out of SAP V phase. UV Spectrophotometer (Shimadzu, Japan) for Rs. 3.2 lacs out of University grant and a LCD power point projector worth RS. 1 lac out of University unassigned grant for the benefits of researchers. While the NMR, HPLC and the LCD power point projector have already become operational, the consignments of the remaining instruments namely, FTIR, UV spectrophotometer & GC-MS have already been received in the department and they will be installed very soon.
