Activities
The department has organized many National and State level seminars, symposia and workshops focused on different disciplines of plant Sciences under the financial support received from UGC, DST, Ministry of Environment and Forests.
The Department is regularly organizing lectures of eminent scientist under UGC-Extension Lecture Programme . This provide opportunity to the Post-Graduate and research students for personal interaction with the scientist and gives wider exposure in different areas of specialization.
The department is recognized by UGC,New Delhi for holding Refresher Courses in Botany and Plant Biotechnology for college and University teachers .Recently ,the Department has successfully conducted refresher Course in Plant Biotechnology .The participants are provided with printed reading material and adequate emphasis is given for practical training in the emerging areas of Plant Sciences.
The students of both M.Sc. Previous and Final are encouraged to undertake botanical excursions indifferent areas within state and distant places of botanical interest in the country .Botanical excursions have been made a part of the curriculum .
The department has a botanical society (founded in 1960). Members of the faculty , research scholars and post - graduate students are members of the society . The society organizes lectures , excursions. exhibitions . The president of the society is elected from amongst the research scholars and the secretary and joint secretary from postgraduate students . Its activities are supervised by the staff advisor . The head of the department is its patron .
The Department has completed A UGC-SAP Programme . DST FIST Programme The Department of Science and Technology ,Govt. of India ,New Delhi has provided a grant of Rs. 35.0 lakhs under its " Fund for Improvement of Science and Technology Infrastructure " (FIST) Programme. This has given major boost to the capabilities in the Department. |
